Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos ‘agree contract extension

Sergio Ramos will sign a new contract at Real Madrid and finally end speculation he could join Manchester United, according to reports.

Spanish daily AS claim that the Liga giants have finally come to an agreement with their captain over a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and will hold a news conference next Monday to officially announce the deal.

The Spain international joined Real Madrid from Sevilla in 2005 and has since become an iconic figure at the club. However, tensions between the player and the board earlier this summer threatened to end the longstanding relationship, with Ramos reportedly telling the club he intended to leave this summer.
It was suggested that Louis van Gaal was keen on exchanging United goalkeeper David de Gea for Ramos, who was reportedly unhappy about the salary he had been offered as part of a new deal at the Bernabeu.
